We won!

A nomination for an Anthem Award was great news unto itself but knowing that the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences felt that Root & Seed deserved a SILVER is icing on the cake!

What is The Anthem Awards, you ask?  Brought to you by The Webby Awards, The Anthem Awards honors the purpose & mission-driven work of people, companies and organizations worldwide. By amplifying the voices that spark global change, they’re defining a new benchmark for social impact work that inspires others to take action in their own community.

When Jennifer and Anika started Root & Seed they did so to solve their own personal challenge of needing a way to connect with their family elders to learn more about their cultures, stories and heritage. Compelled by different motivators and life events, they united in their mission.

Little did they know the impact would be as far reaching and rewarding as it’s been.

What makes this award special?  The category!  What does it mean to be recognized in the category of “Health : Digital & Innovative Experiences”?

It means we are taking the topic of intergenerational connection from the “living room” to the masses, making it everyday, essential and critical for the wellbeing of society and its future.

If that’s not convincing enough, believe this….

  • There are researched, empirical, measurable health benefits (i.e. sense of purpose, improved mood/sleep, increased confidence) when generations connect.
  • Innovation doesn’t need to be complex. Often the simplest ways to connect people yield the best results and fits into their lives naturally and seamlessly.
  • Telling stories is not a one and done activity. AND it shouldn’t be done in isolation - trauma is healed when we connect with compassion and courage.
  • It is therapeutic to know that one’s legacy will live on AND a sense of anchoring for younger generations when they know where they come from.
  • Ageism and reverse ageism in families, communities and workplaces can be mitigated through the sharing of stories, empathy and compassion.

  • So what are you waiting for!?  Call an elder today, and don’t ask them about the weather.  We dare you!
